FAQ's

Below, please find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

Our Residential routes are focused in South Fargo, and South West Fargo. We stay south of 13th Ave in Fargo, and South of Main Ave in West Fargo. Keeping our routes tight allows us to have the best service level in town.

Our minimum snowfall amount is 2″ for residentials. Any time it snows 2″ or more at once, we will automatically provide service. We go by the offical snow totals reported at www.fmweather.com.

We update our Facebook page all the time before/during/after each storm. If you have a question about if we are out working, please check Facebook before calling.  FargoSnow on Facebook

No. We will provide unlimited service at 2″ all winter no matter how much or how often it snows.

We stay about 2′ away from garage doors and buildings. We also stay about 2′ away from vehicles parked in driveways.

November 1st – April 15th.

Although we would love to be able to guarantee a 7 AM arrival time it would be deceptive advertising to do so, as we cannot guarantee when the snow will start! Obviously the later the snow starts the later we start. For instance, if it snows 2″ before midnight then we will start at midnight so that all driveways are cleared once before 7 am. Of course, when we don’t get 2″ until 4-5am then we don’t start until then, and won’t make it through the entire route until later in the morning! Usually by this time there isn’t enough snow to prevent anyone from getting out of his/her driveway. So even if you leave early in the morning before we can get there, you can be assured that by the time you get home from work it will be cleared. In the case that it keeps snowing another 2″ after we clear your driveway then we will return to do it again.

If the city plows leave a ridge at the end of your driveway we ask that you please let us know and we will take care of it for free.

Yes!

Yes, we carry a $2,000,000 General Liability policy, as well as Commercial Auto. We also have ND Workers Compensation, and pay all applicable taxes required of a company with employees. We strongly suggest you only hire a fully insured company.

No, our drivers are trained to work around them. However we will not clear the areas inaccessible because of the car. If you expect to have a car on the driveway when we arrive we recommend that you make sure to place it as close to the top and side of the driveway as possible to allow the driver maximum accessibility, or to move it onto the street if possible. One thing to remember is that if a car is blocking your driveway and we are unable to service the drive, if you want us to make a return trip after the car is moved there will be an additional cost.

*Please note, for the sake of efficiency, our drivers do not get out of their tractors and knock on your door to get you to move your vehicle(s). Our drivers also can not wait for you to move your vehicle if you try to run out while we are there.

Believe it or not our equipment makes less noise than a traditional walk-behind snow blower! Plus, we are in and out of your driveway in under 5 minutes minimizing the amount of disturbance caused to both you and your neighbors. In all likelihood you probably won’t even realize that we are there!

No. The compact tractor and blower will not crack your asphalt or concrete. Although it looks large the weight of the machine is evenly distributed over the extra large surface area of its tires, so that there is actually more weight per square inch being applied to your asphalt by your own car than by our tractors! And, our drivers are trained to lower their blowers in a controlled manner so that unnecessary jolts to the asphalt by the blower are minimized during the snow blowing process. Furthermore, driveway markers are installed on the edges of your driveway to identify the boundaries of the driveway so that the drivers do not drive on your grass. Snow blowing with a tractor is one of the best methods in the industry at the moment for clearing snow from your driveway!

I’m sorry but we cannot provide service to driveways with Colored Concrete because we do not want to scratch it. Also Interlocking Stone (Paver) drives could get caught on the cutting edge so we are not able to service them without risk to our equipment.

It is the responsibility of the home owner to make sure that if any water valve caps are protruding in the driveway to contact the City to have them lowered. You will need to request that they send a service technician by to lower the pipe and cap to the level of the driveway. If the cap is not flush with the level of the driveway it may very likely get picked off and blown onto the lawn. So, please make sure that the city takes care of this in advance of the first snow. Otherwise, once snow arrives and covers the surface, this issue is not apparent and the city may charge you for repairs in the spring.

Our drivers are required to record any damages caused to your property on their worksheets at the time of the incident. This information is then extracted from the worksheet at the end of the shift and logged for repair in the spring unless it is of a more urgent nature. Exclusions to this rule include any and all items left in the immediate work area of our equipment (i.e. on the driveway). Examples would be flower pots/planters, downspouts, recycling bins, garbage cans, basketball nets, children’s toys, and extension cords. Also, please do not leave these types of things in your driveway as it can damage our snowblowers. Although our office or driver will usually report a damage directly to you at the time of the incident we always encourage you to verify with the office the day after the snow storm as well if you have any concerns.

No. In the event of freezing rain or ice, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to apply any necessary abrasives or de-icers. If you would like us to apply salt after an ice storm you can call us and we can send someone out for it. This would be billed seprately from the driveway snow service.

We offer a very basic, sidewalk service: We can do the CITY SIDEWALKS if you would like us to. These are the sidewalks out by the street that run parallel to the street. We do not do any “private walkways” or “entryways”  — These would be the walks that lead up to your front door. This is mostly intended as a basic service for “Snow Birds” that need their sidewalks serviced, however we do offer it to anyone that needs it, as long as we do your driveway also.  Please note that we do City Sidewalks AFTER the storm, after driveway routes are complete.

All of our driveway markers go up about November 1st and are generally removed during the first week of April -depending on the weather. Please do not throw the markers away. If you would like to remove them yourself prior to April we ask that you kindly lay them down beside your garage and we will collect them when we arrive. Please note that if you remove the markers early, and then it snows again, that we won’t be able to service your driveway – so if you remove the markers you are doing so at your own risk.

Please notify our office the day after the snowstorm when you see this happen. We will bring it to the attention of the driver and make sure that is does not happen again. Please do not hesitate to let us know about this. Otherwise the longer the pattern is repeated the harder it is correct.

The most thorough in the business! In October every year each new recruit is trained on the navigation of his route, familiarized with the technical aspects of his equipment, provided with hours of practical driving exercises, and thoroughly briefed on safety issues surrounding both the public and himself. He is supplied with both literature and hands-on training, so don’t be surprised if you see a couple of Fargo Snow tractors out on the road pre-snow! No, the drivers aren’t crazy, they’re just practicing. We believe that preparedness reduces stress, the opportunity for damage, and the loss of time, which ultimately translates into the delivery of better service to our customers.

No, the service is the same for every one of our customers; just the timing is different. And, we try to ‘flipflop’ our routes every 2nd to 3rd snowstorm so that if you were at the end of a route one time you might be at the beginning the next time! Our routes are logistically organized to be able to deliver service as efficiently as possible based upon your geographic location. No preference is given or favoritism exercised. Everyone has equal priority.

If you move mid season we can transfer the service agreement to the new owners of the property for the remainder of the season. However we will not issue a refund if they do not wish to use our services.

Yes, we are always looking for reliable, conscientious, hard-working, and honest staff. Please contact us for more information regarding available positions.
